Adoption Application
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Haven of Hope Sanctuary! We are excited to learn more about you, your experience with equines, and the home you can provide. Our goal is to help create the best possible match between you and the donkey, mule, or hinny you are interested in adopting.
Every animal is unique, and we take the time to carefully consider their individual personality, needs, history, and ideal living environment. This application helps us get to know you and your experience so that we can help find the right match for everyone involved.
Before completing this application, please review our adoption process page and all the requirements to ensure that you can provide the environment, care, companionship, and lifelong commitment our animals deserve.
The adoption fee starts at $700 and helps offset the costs associated with their care, including:
-
Their initial rescue and transportation
-
Veterinary care, including castration when needed
-
Feed and hay
-
Farrier services
-
Training and rehabilitation received while in our care
If you have any questions or need assistance completing the application, please contact us at info@havenofhopesanctuary.org. We are happy to help!
Our Adoption Requirements:
Companionship is essential
-
Donkeys, mules, and hinnies are social animals who thrive with appropriate equine companionship. We generally do not adopt an animal to live alone.
Adoption in pairs
-
When appropriate, bonded pairs or compatible pairs may be adopted together. A single animal may also be considered for adoption into an established herd or to join an appropriate equine companion already living at the adopter's property.
Existing equine companions
-
We may consider placing a donkey, mule, or hinny with other equines when the animals are appropriate companions for one another and the overall environment meets our care requirements.
Every adoption is unique
-
We carefully review each application on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is not simply to find a home for an animal, but to find the right home. Haven of Hope Sanctuary reserves the right to determine whether a particular home and adopter are the best match for an animal in our care.
What to Expect During the Application Process
As part of the adoption process, we may ask you to provide photographs or videos of your property so we can better understand the environment you are preparing for your new companion. These may include:
-
The corral or dry lot, including fencing
-
Pasture areas, including fencing
-
Shelter, both inside and outside
-
Hay storage
-
Water sources and arrangements for providing water during freezing temperatures
-
Any existing equines or other animals on the property
-
Any other areas relevant to the care and housing of the animal
We may also request additional information or arrange a property visit when needed. These steps help us ensure that the animal's needs can be met and allow us to answer questions and help prepare you for adoption.
Our Adoption Promise
Our adoption process is designed with one goal in mind: to give every donkey, mule, and hinny the best chance at a safe, happy, and permanent home.
All adoption decisions are based on the individual needs and best interests of the animal, as well as the mission and adoption standards of Haven of Hope Sanctuary. If an application or particular match is not approved, it does not mean that you have done anything wrong or that we do not appreciate your interest in providing a home.
Finding the right match can take time, but we believe it is worth it. Our animals have already experienced change in their lives, and we are committed to helping them find a loving home where they can thrive for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for opening your heart and home to an animal in need!
